In Loving Memory of Anita Gwynne Wristen
After 14 years of battling leukemia, Anita Gwynne Wristen, age 61, of Jersey Village, Texas passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2021 while surrounded by her family and dog.
She was born in Crockett, Texas on April 19, 1960. Anita moved around more times than a person should but finally settled in Jersey Village in 2001 when she began dating Neal Gordon. On their first date she joked with him not to leave her and he was there until the end.
Anita loved to travel and take a back road wherever she went. She found the coolest places and gifts on her trips with family as they explored the state of Texas. Some of her favorite times were spent on the Guadalupe River and during Thanksgivings in Florida. The past few years she wasn’t able to travel as much due to her illness but other than keeping her closer at home it didn’t stop her from spending time with her family. She attended as many of her grandkids events as possible and never turned down an invitation from her kids. Having her family around meant more to her than anything in the world and all she wanted for them was to grow into strong and kind people with a love for God.
Anita is survived by her daughter Brandi Schattle, her husband Monty and their two children – Makynzi and Jaxon – all of Houston, Texas; and her son, James Lee Wristen, his wife Shea and their two children, Zackery and Ann; her boyfriend of 21 years, Neal Gordon and his kids and grandkids; her step-dad, James Schreiber; two brothers, Mike McPhail and Charles McPhail, and numerous other family members and friends that she loved like family.
She is preceded in death by her father, Royce McPhail; mother, Anita Schreiber; brother, Royce Lee McPhail; all of her grandparents and numerous other family members.
Anita didn’t want a funeral service or memorial and the family is honoring her wishes. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made on her behalf to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or a photo and memory may be sent to her daughter so she can make memory books for the family to look back on.
Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
