Dallas Newman Johnson, 92, passed from this life on Wednesday, March 31, 2023 in Humble,
Texas.
He was born to Hulette Clayton and Mary Amanda Johnson in Muhlenberg County Kentucky.
Quitting school in the 8th grade, he enlisted in the Army at the age of 16, lying about his age.
After a two year deployment, he returned home only to enlist in the Navy. He remained in the
Navy until 1966 when he retired and moved his family to Fort Worth, Texas.
After moving to Fort Worth, Texas, he had many jobs. No one did it the “Navy” way and he
would find himself moving from job to job, almost reenlisting in the Navy! Finally, he found his
niche! He landed a mowing contract with the City of Fort Worth. He was his own boss. He
stayed with the City until moving to his church campground in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, in
1988, working as the grounds overseer. In 1994, he moved to Tyler, Texas, and remained there
until 2017 when he moved to Humble, Texas, due to health reasons.
After retiring from the navy, and when mowing season was dormant, he and his wife traveled
mostly by motorhome, visiting assembly after assembly. There he would upholster pews,
dining room chairs, lay sod on the grounds, help with plumbing and painting, whatever the
assembly needed, he dove into. You could certainly hold true to the fact that Dallas Newman
Johnson had the gift of “helps”.
Proceeded in death by his parents, Hulette and Mary Johnson, three sisters, Margaret Pate, Ann
Smith and Wanda Harper and an infant brother. Also, a very special nephew, Jim Crafton and a
very special niece, Nedra Toten and step-grandson, Michael Sizemore.
He is survived by his faithful and loving wife, Jonelle, daughter, Victoria Sizemore (Cecil), son,
Wesley (Charlotte), grandsons, Shaun Gregory (Julie), Shane Gregory (Elise), Dustin Johnson,
Wesley Scott Johnson. Granddaughters, Shelley Caballero, Rebecca Peach (Stanley), Shaelyne
Wright (Chad) and Channa Parkinson (Jordan), numerous great-grands and one great-great-
grand. There are also numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-
great nieces and nephews and a host of many friends.
