Henry was born in Detroit Michigan on June 1, 1965 to Henry de Muinck Hopkes III and Birgit Dahlen Hopkes. He had two older sisters and one younger. He lived the first sixteen years of his life in the Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe. In 1983 he moved to Houston Texas with his parents and younger sister. His first job was packing groceries at Randall’s grocery store. From there he worked for his father at Minerex corporation and then Atchafalaya seafood as kitchen help. He attended The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York and graduated in 1997. He has worked in the Restaurant business since, spending time at McCormick and Schmick’s seafood, Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites, the Downtown Aquarium and most recently The Union Kitchen from 2013 to 2020.
He was married in 1997 to the love of his life Lisa Sellers. They had their son, Henry de Muinck Hopkes V in 1998. He is survived by his son Henry Hopkes V and ex wife Lisa Sellers Hopkes, sisters, Karol Hopkes Swenson, Melissa Hopkes, Christina Hopkes Treybig, 3 brother in laws and many nieces and nephews.
Henry was known at The Union Kitchen for having a Huge heart. He cared about his staff and he cared about his food. Staff loved him and his food was impeccable and his execution top notch. He was a master of Seafood and was known for his Lobster Bisque, Gumbo, shrimp, crab and crawfish Etouffee, Fettuccine Alfredo and Chicken & Dumplings.
He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
