Mary Ruth Fort Blain, age 67, peacefully passed away on January 11, 2021 in The Woodlands. She was born in Minneola, Texas on April 21, 1953 to Rev. Joe and Dorothea Davis Fort. The daughter of a Methodist minister, she grew up throughout East and Southeast Texas. Mary studied at Lon Morris College, completed her degree in Elementary Education at Lamar University, and later earned a master's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from UT-Tyler. She was a devoted mother to Joyce and Robert.
Mary showed love and shared fellowship through her amazing cooking and beautiful crochet and craftwork. She was a dedicated volunteer at her children's schools and with the United Methodist Women at First United Methodist Church in Beaumont. She worked in the Beaumont and Spring school districts, at both Lon Morris College and the University of St. Thomas, and for a time, taught English in Taebaek, South Korea.
Her brother Rev. Joe Fort Jr officiated Mary's memorial service at West Shady Grove Cemetery outside Jacksonville, Texas near the family homestead on January 17.
Mary is survived by her daughter Joyce Blain of Beaumont; son Robert Blain and his wife Kimberly Blain of Houston; brother Reverend Joe Fort Jr and his wife Margaret Fort of Bryan; sister Peetie Edwards and her husband Russell Edwards of Jacksonville; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and their beautiful children.
She is preceded in death by her parents Rev. Joe and Dorothea Fort and her brother Thomas Fort.
