Obituary

Michael Edward Gonzalez of Houston, Texas passed away unexpectedly in his home on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at the age of 47.

Upon graduating in 1991 from Douglas MacArthur High School in San Antonio, Texas he embarked on a 25-year career in the food and beverage industry. Michael lived in several Texas cities including Corpus Christi, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and worked at various restaurants and eateries. It gave him great pleasure to cook and share his knowledge and culinary skills with others. He later ventured to Jackson Hole, Wyoming where he met his wife, Nicole and mother of his two daughters. They later settled in Ellwood City, PA.

Michael “Mike” returned to Texas where he enjoyed one of his most recent highlights in his career, receiving a personalized replica of the Houston Astros 2019 Championship ring for his contributions to the organization and fans. Over the course of his career, he was able to travel and meet many professional sports figures and made long lasting relationships with people from all walks of life.

Outside of his culinary career, he worked with removal of hazardous materials at New York City’s ground zero after 9/11.

Michael was an enthusiast for anything fun and novel, he enjoyed watching games with his family, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins.  He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid walker.  His favorite pastime was searching for treasures at estate sales and second-hand stores.

Michael was a generous, easy-going, fun-loving human being that cared about people in the purest way.  He loved people for who they were and wished the best for them, without asking for anything in return. He loved to be around his family and was quick to seize any opportunity to be around them.

Michael was the proud father of two beautiful girls, Claire and Lily who he loved dearly and held close to his heart. He often spoke of them enthusiastically and with enormous pride as they matured to young women.

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and co-workers.

Michael is survived by his father, Gilberto Gonzalez, Jr. (Rebecca Garcia) of Houston, Texas; his mother, Anna (Tijerina) Gonzalez of San Antonio, Texas; his ex-wife Nicole and his beloved daughters, Claire Grace and Lily Marie Gonzalez of Amity, PA; his sister, Antoinette Gardner and her children, David, Jake and Ava Gardner of San Antonio, Texas; his brother, Bryan Gonzalez (Carrie) and children, Dominic Gonzalez, Lily and Herschel Braddock of Richmond Hill, GA; and numerous aunts. uncles, and cousins.
