Obituary

In Loving Memory of Robert Dales Matthews Jr

February 25th, 1956-August 12th, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Robert Dales Matthews Jr, his last breaths were taken August 12th, 2023 surrounded by his loving family and friends in The Woodlands, Texas. Born February 25th, 1956 in Evanston, Illinois to his parents Robert Dales Matthews Sr and Nancy Ann Potter whom he joined in Heaven. Robert was a beloved Father, husband, grandfather, brother, and son who touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His departure has left an unfillable void in the hearts of his loved ones, as they remember the profound impact he made during his time on this Earth.

A man of unwavering love and devotion, he held his family and grandchildren at the center of his world. His love was a guiding light that illuminated the lives of those around him, leaving a legacy of warmth, compassion, and cherished memories. His bond with his family was a testament to the enduring strength of love and the foundation of his life.

Fond childhood memories come alive when we recall his summers spent sailing and the special moments shared with his beloved grandmother, Alice, on the picturesque shores of Martha's Vineyard. Those carefree days on the water were emblematic of his adventurous spirit and the joy he found in the simple pleasures of life. Robert held dear to the memory of those who preceded him in passing; both of his parents, Robert and Nancy, his Grams Mary Matthews, His Grandfather Ed Matthews, His Grandmother Alice Potter, his Uncle Eddy Matthews and Scott Matthews.

Music was the heartbeat of his soul, with rock 'n' roll coursing through his veins. But beyond that, his appreciation for all genres of music demonstrated the breadth of his open-mindedness and his ability to find beauty in every tune. His passion for music was a source of connection, bringing people together and sparking conversations that flowed with the melodies he held dear.

Holidays held a special place in his heart, not for extravagant gifts, but for the time spent together. He believed that the true value of these occasions lay in the shared laughter, heartfelt conversations, and the bonds that were strengthened with each passing year. His wisdom was a beacon that guided his family through life's challenges and celebrations alike, a steady presence offering counsel that carried the weight of experience.

He was a man of exceptional kindness, a second father to those he took under his wing, treating them as if they were his own. His generosity knew no bounds, extending the love he had for his family to embrace others with open arms. His capacity to love and care left an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to experience it.

As we remember this incredible man, we hold onto the roles he played: a loving father who nurtured and protected, a devoted husband who stood as a steadfast partner, a doting grandfather whose love knew no bounds, a caring brother who provided comfort, and a dutiful son who carried the lessons of his upbringing with grace.

Though he may no longer be physically present, his spirit lives on in the memories he created and the love he shared. His departure leaves an emptiness that can never be filled, but his legacy of love, compassion, and strength will continue to inspire generations to come. Robert is survived by His Wife, Linda Kay Matthews, Son Robert Dales Matthews III (Wife Mhayen Matthews, Grandchildren Luna and Lilo), Daughter Melissa Matthews (Partner Gabriel Ferrel and Grandpup Winnie), Son Jeremy McDaniel (Wife Melissa McDaniel and Grandchildren Bryan and Lilian), Son Joshua McDaniel (Grandchildren Rachel and Brayden) and Jason McDaniel (Partner Leslie and Grandpup Daisy) all of Houston, Texas. His Siblings Martha Hayes (Husband Greg and their children Matthew and Grace), Craig Matthews (Wife Jean and their son Craig Jr), Hank Matthews (Wife Lori and their children Nathan and Rachel) and Mary Matthews. His Aunt Rita Matthews (her children Chip and David) and numerous other cherished family members and loving friends. The Matthews Family will be holding a celebration of life honoring Robert October 14th 2023 at 6 PM in Spring, Texas.
